Albergue of the Macau Holy House of Mercy
Stroll around St. Lazarus’ quarter and walk into the Old Ladies’ House, where once was a shelter for the poor. The place served as a refuge for elderly women at the end of the World War II and was home to over 100 elderly. In a small courtyard laying between two century-old colonial buildings, someone seems to be enjoying the cool shade of two centenary camphor trees. Taking a closer look, we can see a lady, dancing gracefully under the trees, as if wanting to tell us something, share the endless thoughts racing through her mind.
This environmental dance theatre takes up the theme of women’s individuality, merging body movement and Cantonese opera songs, integrating Chinese and Western musical elements. In a patio exuding history and wisdom, a wide range of local talents from different disciplines is jointly building a bridge, connecting the past and present, engaging in a dialogue that transcends time and space. She Said tells us of women’s self-awakening, a celebration of feminine courage and strength in a fight against fate, both in the past and present.
