Moscow, 1957. Meet Laika, a clever and gentle stray puppy. After completing her training in a special space program, she receives a one-way ticket to space. Her mission? To explore and unravel the mysteries of the sparkling stars in the night sky. As she embarks on this interstellar voyage, Laika will etch her name in history as the first living being to venture into the great cosmic unknown. Join her as she takes you on a thrilling adventure into the universe!
The director playfully breaks the fourth wall, inviting families to hop into a time machine back to the 1950s Soviet Union. It’s like a roller coaster ride through history, filled with exciting twists and turns — a journey to explore how our animal friends are indispensable in the human drive towards progress and the true meaning of life together.
Laika is one of the most iconic plays created by Spain’s ace theatre company, Xirriquiteula, and has won numerous prestigious theatre awards across Spain and many other European countries. The play employs expressive forms as diverse as shadow play, puppets, physical theatre, installations, and film montage, offering the audience a captivating visual aesthetic intertwined with its storytelling.
