The Macao Chinese Orchestra presents the grand finale to this year’s Arts Festival in a concert designed to convey Macao’s affection for traditional Chinese culture. After an action-packed fortnight of shows, exhibitions, film and a host of other cultural manifestations, audiences will have an opportunity to sit back and relax to a “musical offering” with a difference. Not only will this polished ensemble perform well-known works from the repertoire of Chinese orchestral music, it will enchant the public with interpretations of western music in a style it has developed over the last decade. Chinese Roots, Macao’s Heart is a delightful union of genres and tastes from East and West.
The Macao Chinese Orchestra was founded in 1987. In addition to regular concerts in Macao, it frequently tours abroad, most recently performing in Geneva, Switzerland. Peng Jia Peng, acclaimed maestro of the China Broadcasting Traditional Orchestra, will appear as guest conductor, along with renowned singer Qubi Awu, who performed during the Macao Handover Ceremony and tenor Hu Songhua.
