Haydn's remark “My language is understood throughout the world” has been vindicated in the countless performances and concert tours that the Haydn Quartet has made in nearly every European country, North and South America and numerous Asian cities including Macao. In the tradition of Esterházy musical culture, the Quartet is based in the Esterházy Castle, in Eisenstadt, where Haydn himself lived and composed for over thirty years.
Mozart, Schubert, Pärt and, of course, one of Haydn’s string quartets are the Quartet’s recipe for this concert, one of 69 the ensemble will perform in Vienna in a special concert series celebrating Haydn’s bicentennial in 2009.
