Marco Polo – The Imaginary Voyage
29/4 (Friday)
8pm
Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium
Tickets: MOP 300, 200, 100
Renowned dancer-choreographers Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Deroualt are the creators of Marco Polo, a multidisciplinary show combining both real and virtual elements and mixing contemporary and classical music, hip hop, martial arts, song and animated images. The performance brings the audience on the futuristic adventures of famed explorer Marco Polo, who, guided by his muse, returns to the distant countries he visited in the past and rediscovers them anew. This imaginary journey is symbolic of the number two. Duality represents both opposition and union, both reflection and division. Duality is creator and creature, yin and yang, masculine and feminine, substance and spirit. As choreographers, Pietragalla and Deroualt fuse two sensibilities – one masculine and one feminine – as well as two forms of expression – the direct and the indirect. Combining reality and imagination, these two expressions blend into an urban and contemporary dance, a journey where consciousness meets the unconscious. It is a double journey for our hero: the silk road to the East, and a road towards himself...
