Music: Liu Cong (b. 1956)/ Lyrics: Ruan Zhenming: Symphonic Suite for Chorus and Orcehstra “The Perfect Match”
Credited as “The Father of the Chinese Mission”, the Jesuit priest Fr. Matteo Ricci was the first person to promote the spread of Western knowledge in the East. He made an immensely significant contribution to the exchange between Chinese and Western cultures. The Symphonic Suite for Chorus and Orchestra The Perfect Match, by celebrated composer Liu Cong with lyrics by renowned academic Ruan Zhenming, recalls Matteo Ricci’s wonderful experiences during his 28 years of missionary work in China. The world premiere of The Perfect Match was given at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2010 to great acclaim.
This performance will be delivered by an outstanding group of vocalists under the baton of Maestro Lü Jia, Artistic Director of the Macao Orchestra. Together with the musicians of the Macao Orchestra, they will recount the extraordinary chronicle of the life and times of this great forerunner of cultural exchange.
