Presented by the Hiu Kok Drama Association, The Imperial Concubine of the Last Dynasty draws on a myriad of tales from pseudo-history and folklore. The two protagonists Yang Yuhuan and Xu Fu serve as the main axis in an exploration of the social and cultural changes that have occurred throughout Chinese history.
Employing bold ideas to infinitely extend time and space, the play transforms the stage into a lens, focusing on a point in history, the Qing dynasty, to portray the rise and fall of the various ages. The protagonists are both a part of this history and the bystanders who witness it. With its vigorous and unrestrained ideas, showcased by unique performing skills, the play boldly shuffles through history, evoking the artistic charm of alternative theatre.
