In a café, a man’s phone rings insistently. Flustered and then irritated, a woman across the way approaches and answers the ringing phone. From that point, the phone connects the woman to a new world – a world surrounding the life of a dead man…
Premiered in 2007, Dead Man’s Cell Phone is a comedy full of poetic fantasies. The story employs modern technology – the cell phone – to explore the real lack of communication people experience in modern life. The extremely realistic scenes and language constitute a rhapsodic story, whilst reflecting the ordinary yet interesting life of the people.
Sarah Ruhl is a new contemporary American playwright who has attracted much attention in theatrical circles. Her other well-known plays include the Pulitzer Prizenominated The Clean House and Eurydice.
