At the same time that the maritime silk route was experiencing rapid development, during the Tang Dynasty (618–907), new advances were made in Chinese porcelainware, as it was exported overseas along the established sea routes of the period. Afterwards, several new routes opened up in the South China Sea to the various continents of the world, and since China’s porcelain-ware played a critically important role in the establishment of these sea routes, the trade lines were named ‘the Maritime Porcelain Road’.
China – the ‘Kingdom of Porcelain’ – thus wrote another impressive chapter in the book of world civilisations. Under the influence of Chinese porcelain, other nations in both East and West gradually developed their own porcelain industries.
