“Haya” means ‘margin’ or ‘boundary’ in Mongolian. According to an ancient legend, at the boundary of the endless sky there is a gem called Haya that holds the radiance of all living things. It is said that the day Haya is discovered, all hatred will dissolve and love will spread throughout the entire world.
Formed in 2006 by famous morin khuur player and teacher Quan Sheng, Haya Band breaks free of national boundaries and ethnic ties, mixing traditional Mongolian singing and instruments – such as khoomei (throat singing), morin khuur (horse-head fiddle), tanbur (long-necked lute) and shaman drum – with pioneering musical elements and modern instruments. Haya infuses ancient melodies passed down through the centuries with new blood. In 2007, the band released its first album, Wolf Totem, and shortly thereafter singer Daiqing Tana joined Haya, bringing a new energy and lending her pure voice to the band’s two subsequent albums, Silent Sky and Migration. The group has performed at the Columbus Asian Festival in the USA, at the Cultural and Arts Festival of India and at the Cannes World Music Festival in France.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the beautiful sounds of Mongolian world music!
