One of the most influential philosophers of our time, Jean Baudrillard (1929-2007) is also one of the most read French thinkers in China. Baudrillard is often seen as a major guru of French postmodern theory, one who commented on some of the most salient cultural and sociological phenomena of the contemporary era. He developed a unique photographic theory and practice which allowed him to demonstrate with a camera his different ways of looking at and perceiving the world. This gave his photographs great impact, and they consequently became part of influential debates on an international scale. Vanishing Techniques, an exhibition comprising around 50 photographs, is the most complete and comprehensive introduction to Baudrillard’s works since his death. The photographs were personally selected by the late thinker’s wife, Marine Baudrillard, and are curated by the Chinese-French curator Mr. Fei Dawei.
