Ning Feng studied violin at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he was the first student ever to be awarded a 100% mark on his final recital. An award-winner in the Hanover International, Queen Elisabeth and Yehudi Menuhin International violin competitions, Ning Feng also took First Prize in the 2006 International Paganini Competition. He performs regularly worldwide in recital and with numerous orchestras.
One of the most promising cellists of Asia, Qin Liwei has appeared all over the world as both soloist and chamber musician. His Silver Medal-winning performance at the 11th Tchaikovsky International Competition evoked high praise: “Liwei drew the audience in with his artistry, his brilliant virtuosity and his very refined musicality and sincerity of interpretation.” He has since also taken First Prize in the prestigious 2001 Naumburg Competition in New York. Born in Shanghai, Liwei moved to Australia at the age of 13 before accepting scholarships to study with Ralph Kirshbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Two special guest musicians will join the Duo for the Borodin and Shostakovitch string quartets, making this a truly memorable concert!
Ning Feng plays a 1721 Stradivari violin, known as the “MacMillen”, on private loan, kindly arranged by Premiere Performances of Hong Kong.
Liwei plays a 1780 Guadagnini.
