Founded in 1996, the Xinjiang Philharmonic Orchestra is a cultural symbol of this autonomous region of China, aspiring to “pass on classical and traditional music, promote the Xinjiang spirit, and guide modern Chinese culture”. Over the years, it has played music of different styles, periods and ethnicities with an exquisite, meticulous and rustic style. One of the top orchestras in Western China, the ensemble, with over 70 professional musicians, also strives to modernise Xinjiang music and is devoted to the promotion of Chinese traditional music.
In Impressions of Xinjiang the Orchestra portrays the picturesque western regions of Asia by performing unique folk music from these deserted areas, also offering the public some well known western classics.
