In the last fifty years the Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe has received recognition from both domestic and international audiences and has won numerous awards at the Chinese Theatre Festival and in the Guangdong Province.
The troupe’s production of The Legend of Li Qingzhao stars National First Class Performer Li Shuqin as the leading actress, winner of the China Drama “Meihua Prize” and Best Leading Actress at the Shanghai Magnolia Awards for Chinese Theatre. Producer and playwright Li Kuiming sheds new light on the story of Li Qingzhao by incorporating comedy elements to attract the younger generations. This production of The Legend of Li Qingzhao represents a breakthrough in the Cantonese Opera stage in terms of the plot, characters, dance, lighting and music.
