With his opera Norma, Vincenzo Bellini created an extraordinary fusion of sublime melody, vocal challenge, and dramatic power. It all centres on the title role of Norma, a powerful woman who compromised her ideals for love, only to find herself betrayed by her lover. Gustav Mahler confessed that he was unable to listen to Norma without tears, and Richard Wagner was so carried away during the final scene that he was sure the opera had been written by god!
Prepare to be amazed and thoroughly entertained when the Macao Orchestra under the direction of Lu Jia joins forces with the Teatro Regio Torino in this lavish and stunning production of Norma . The 28th MIMF is proud to present the innovative stage, set and costume design by William Orlandi for the Teatro Regio Torino, an organisation that proudly looks back at centuries of theatrical experience. Established in 1740, the Teatro Regio Torino not only played host to some of the greatest singers and performers over the years, but also saw the world premieres of Manon Lescaut and La Boheme , two undisputed masterworks by Giacomo Puccini.
Supported by a stellar musical cast, this performance is sure to invigorate your senses by revisiting the bel-canto sensation that has taken the world by storm ever since its
1831 premiere.
