Zygmunt Krauze is one of the most important artistsof his generation. Born in 1938, Krauze is a highly respected composer, acclaimed pianist, educator, organiser of musical events, and an esteemed judge in many international competitions. Krauze began his musical studies in his native Poland before taking composition lessons with the legendary Nadia Boulanger in Paris. After he won First Prize in the “Gaudeamus Competition” in Holland in 1966, Krauze returned to his homeland and founded “The Warsaw Music Workshop Ensemble.” He served this group of extraordinary performers exclusively dedicated to contemporary music as artistic director and pianist for over 20 years. In the process, he commissioned works from more than 100 composers throughout the world. Krauze has not only maintained an active and highly successful solo career as a pianist, he is also an internationally acclaimed composer. His compositions include five operas, various instrumental works ranging from petite miniatures to symphonic works engaging hundreds of musicians, to music for theatre, choral pieces and songs.
