What is left at the crime scene? Half a cup of cold green tea latte, a male corpse and a puddle of clotted blood. These are the shocking traces of a “fateful” decision. Somewhere in the bustling city, a castration ceremony is being per formed. A prolonged struggle and search for gender and ethics is about to come to an end…when suddenly, a murderer is revealed.
Playwright Emmy Ip’s interest in theatre arose in high school. She received her training as a theatre director at the School of Theatre of the Macao Conservatory which she concluded with distinction, and received several prizes for her scripts. The script of Fateful Decision won her 1st prize at the 10th Macao Literature Competition, Theatre Category. Director Philip Chan is currently the Artistic Director of the Macao Godot Art Association. From 2008 to 2012, Philip received funding from the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Foundation to study Theatre Direction at the Beijing Central Academy of Drama. Since then, he has been actively working as a director, actor and playwright both locally and in Mainland China.
This play, commissioned by the Macao Arts Festival, features several local theatre talents.
