Cocorico showcases the talents of two of France’s bestknown comic performers and is physical comedy at its best.
Skilled shadow-play, sophisticated music-comedy, a nod to spaghetti westerns and the Tour de France are just some of the 80-minute production’s highlights, as physical comedian Patrice Thibaud spars with acrobat-musician Philippe Leygnac in a very Gallic battle of temperaments. The plot unfolds when Thibaud, the mischievous man-boy exploits every opportunity to pester his sidekick Leygnac, a taciturn musician. Eventually humour defeats reason and drives the acrobatic Leygnac to join Thibaud’s spree of antics whereupon the duo animate the stage.
Not only very funny, Cocorico is almost lyrical in its evocation of our hopes, failings, tics and habits. Played out in a series of improbable, exquisitely executed routines, Cocorico is physical comedy at its very best.
Thibaud and Leynac first met in 2003 while working on Les Etourdis. Realising an immediate affinity in mime and music, the pair’s aspiration to work together was actualized in Cocorico, which debuted in 2008, to great box-office success.
