San Francisco based orchestra of voices Chanticleer are one of the finest male a cappella ensembles performing today! Founded in 1978, the 12-member group, ranging from soprano to bass, initially focused on the much-neglected vocal repertoires of the Medieval and Renaissance periods. Ever since, the ensemble has embraced vocal music genres from all walks of life, performing a wealth of gospel, jazz and popular music arrangements. The group’s long- standing commitment to commissioning and performing new works has resulted in over 90 pieces written by over 70 composers. Despite an incredibly busy performance and recording schedule, Chanticleer is heavily vested in music education. Since 1981, the group has sold well over a million recordings and won two Grammy awards in the process. In 2010, the ensemble was recognised with the Chorus America Education and Outreach Award.
Chanticleer brings an exciting new programme to Macao! Over the Moon revels in ecstasy and intense emotions as it prominently features the music of Nico Muhly, commissioned for the ensemble in 2015. The programme also includes works ranging from Monteverdi to Mäntyjärvi, and a number of specially commissioned arrangements of themes by Porter, Mancini, Elbow and others. Don’t miss the seamless and silky vocal mastery of Chanticleer!
