The “2nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is going to present residents and tourists a series of highlight activities. Among which, “A Cherished Memory from 1999 ― Archives Exhibition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Return of Macao to the Motherland”, organized by the Archives of Macao, will be inaugurated on 28 June (Friday), at 6pm, at the Archives of Macao. The exhibition is held until 27 December and admission is free. In conjunction with the exhibition, a thematic lecture will be held on 29 June (Saturday), at 3pm, at the Archives of Macao. All are welcome.

In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the Motherland, the Archives of Macao will showcase a selection of over one hundred records from the Committee for Celebration Activities from All Sectors for the Return of Macao to the People's Republic of China (CDSMP) collection to share important moments and milestones of the reunification and revive a collective memory that has been cherished for long. With less than a year to go to the momentous event, the CDSMP, which was composed of representatives from different sectors and associations in the community, was established to organize and coordinate celebrations for the reunification of Macao with the Motherland and encourage public participation in the activities. The celebration is the largest scale ceremony in Macao’s history before Macao’s return to the Motherland in the aspects of diversity of its performance, the number of participants and the high scale of the work. The exhibition is held from 29 June to 27 December and admission is free. All are welcome.

In addition, a thematic lecture will be held on 29 June, at 3pm, at the Archives of Macao, in which guest speakers Ung Si Meng and Lei Pui Lam, the former Director and the former Secretary General of the Executive Committee of CDSMP respectively, will share stories about the establishment of CDSMP, the planning, coordinating and organizing of the celebrations as well as the endeavours of CDSMP. Interested parties are welcomed to participate. The lecture will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.
