The 20th Macao City Fringe Festival, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), features a series of outreach activities, including workshops, exhibitions, sharing sessions, seminars and online meetings, offering rich and diverse artistic experience to the public.

The online meeting “Webinar: Connect with the Festivals’ Representatives” shows how the technology breaks the barriers, using creativity and enthusiasm to build a wider world of art for the public. Three renowned overseas curators of Fringe Festival and an art review magazine founder, including the CEO of Brighton Fringe, Julian Caddy; the Executive Director of Vancouver Fringe Festival, Rohit Chokhani; the Head of Program Operations of Adelaide Fringe, Jo O’Callaghan; and the founder of FringeReview, Paul Levy, share their experiences of curating a festival and explore the relationships between art, city, life and emotions. In Fringe Chat, critics from Mainland China and Macao will shuttle through various performances of the Fringe Festival, and discuss with the audiences and artists the features and heartbeats of the Fringe Festival.

This year’s Fringe Festival offers several workshops that focus on body language. The “Crème de la Fringe: On Site” features three “Body Playground” workshops by artists with distinctive styles, in which participants will learn how the artists train their bodies and establish their own systems of creativity; as well as Chitchat Space for participants to have exchanges with artists at close range. Participants who attend performances under the series “On Site” or workshops can receive “On Site Footprint” stickers and redeem tickets for the designated programmes, souvenirs or register for the Chitchat Space with a certain number of stickers.

The “Crème de la Fringe: Todos Fest!” features the dance workshops Body in Time and Symbiotic Dance based on Danceability, allowing people with different physical conditions to develop their dance potential. Participants who complete these workshops will take part in the relevant performances. In “Art has no Boundaries” – Seminar on Artistic Development of Disadvantaged Groups in the Community, professionals, artists and representatives of social service organization from Macao and other regions will discuss “the development of art and the elderly” and “the development and popularization of art for people with disabilities”, analyzing the role of art in our everyday lives.

The public can also participate in the “Experience Workshop” and the “Workout Together Workshop” of the “Work Inspired Workouts – Macao Market Version”. In the former, the creative team and participants will make observations at the market and transform their experiences into a workout; while in the latter, the creative team will teach participants the workout step by step. An exhibition will be set up to record the workout and experiences at the markets, as well as to display videos and illustrations of the workout.

In the “Marine Waste Puppet-Making Workshop”, participants will use marine waste to make marine waste puppets, which will be displayed in the “Marine Waste Puppet Exhibition”. The exhibition will show the source of marine waste and the threats to marine life. The “Focus to – Release” Installation is exhibited at the Praça de Jorge Álvares, where the public can enjoy the artworks created between focus and release.
