Despite the unstable weather, the 23rd Macao Youth Music Competition (MYMC) continues in the Macao Polytechnic Institute’s auditorium with intense atmosphere. After a series of competition, winners of six more groups were announced.

There were numerous contestants for Piano Works for Four Hands (Intermediate Level) Competition held in the afternoon of June 30. The partners’ hard work and seriousness was shown during their discussions at the backstage and their tacit understanding onstage. After a series of competition, Kung I Kio and Cheang Ian won the third prize; the second prize went to Tay Cesar de Sa, Mariana and Choi Weng Teng; and Ho Weng Sam and Vong Man Teng won the first prize.

For piano Group G (Level 7) competition held in the evening (June 30), most contestants performed calmly and with good standards. The third prize went to Poon Ho Suet; Chan Weng Sa won the first prize with 0.67 points higher than the second prize winner Yeung Coey Victoria (91 points).

In the Haydn Piano Sonata Competition held on July 1, Chan Ka Ian won the third prize; the second prize went to Sio Hoi I; and Chan Weng Sa, the champion of piano Group G (Level 7) competition, received her second first prize.

For Piano Works for Four Hands (Advanced Level), some contestants were full of anxiety while some others performed with emotions. Some contestants, with excellent performances, received great applause from the audience. Wong Cheok Lam and Poon Ho Suet won the third prize; the second prize went to Lau Pui Kei and Chan Sok Leng; Sio Hoi I and Chan Ka Ian, with good agreement and excellent performance, won the first prize.

Some contestants of Piano Works for Four Hands claimed that, since the songs possess certain degree of difficulty, it is necessary to perform thoroughly and meticulously. In order to do so, they have to find the right partner. Si Tou Ka Man and Lei Ka Pou have been learning piano together since a young age, it is advantageous for them to work in pairs because they possess similar standards. They claimed that close partners could boost each other’s courage. Finally, they got certificates of competence.

For Piano Works by Chinese Composers (Intermediate Level) Competition, Lam Hoi Iam won the third prize, the second prize went to Silvia de Almeida and Chan Weng Sa won the first prize. There were only four contestants for the advanced level. Wu Iek Teng won the first prize with 87.33 points by performing renowned Chinese composer Chan Pui-fang’s Paired Butterflies Variations. There were no second and third prizes winners for this category.
