In order to promote the development of classical music in Macao, encourage young local musicians to explore their musical potential, and provide them valuable stage experience and learning opportunities, the Cultural Affairs Bureau organizes the 36th Macao Young Musicians Competition between 23 June and 15 July. Applications will be open from 4 to 15 April.
This edition of the Macao Young Musicians Competition, dedicated to Chinese and Western instruments and to vocal music, features 95 categories with elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Participants must hold a valid Macao SAR Resident identity card and must have been born on or after 1997 (for instrument categories) and 1993 (for vocal categories). A First, Second and Third prizes, Distinction and Merit certificate will be awarded in each category. All the First Prize winners in each category or competitors recommended by the jury will have the opportunity to participate in the “Special Prizes Competition”, and all the First Prize winners of each solo category can compete for the Grand Champion, First Runner-up or Second Runner-up. The Grand Champion of Advanced level in solo category will be awarded “Cultural Affairs Bureau Prize” (scholarship ). All the First Prize winners in ensemble category will have the opportunity to compete for the “Best Ensemble Performance Prize”.
In order to facilitate the applications, this year the application is made by online registration first, followed by payment and document submission. Applicants can register online from 10am on 4 April to 6pm on 15 April through the Macao Young Musicians Competition webpage (www.icm.gov.mo/cjmm). The supporting documents and an application fee of MOP100 per category must be handed in person at the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building located at Tap Siac Square, between 12 and 15 April, from 10am to 7pm (open during lunch hour).
Applicants may also prepare all required documents and apply at the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building during the document submission period and time indicated above, where they can make the online registration with the assistance of IC officers.
