Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches 24th issue of Books and the City

The 24th issue of Books and the City, published by the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is now available to the public. Themed on “Poetry in Macao”, this issue interviews four distinctive Macao poets who reconstruct Macao as a multifaceted and picturesque city through poetry.

In this issue, the “Library Portrait” column features an interview with Filip Vu, a senior technician responsible for the Library microfilming, taking readers into the time tunnel through the black-and-white images of the microfilm collection; the section “Library Handbook” introduces “The Historical Archive of Va Kio Daily”, reviewing Macao’s past news with readers; the section “Library Wonder Why” introduces simple methods of book preservation, so that readers keep their books in good condition; in “Author’s Say”, Portuguese writer Catarina Mesquita was invited to share the story behind the composition of the bilingual children’s book Na Rua; the section “New Launch” introduces a rich variety of new arrivals, including books, movies, music and magazines. In addition, this issue also features 10 brief yet insightful book reviews in Chinese, Portuguese and English.

A total of 3,000 copies of Books and the City are available free of charge at all the branch libraries under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, tertiary education institutions, Tap Seac Gallery and several bookstores as well as cultural and art spaces in Macao. The past 23 issues are also accessible on the Macao Public Library website at www.library.gov.mo.
