The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) is committed to beautifying the community with cultural creativity and art installations, spreading arts in every corner of the city. Recently, the art installation featuring Macao Tourism Mascot “Mak Mak”, and the public artwork “Global City” of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, were installed in the Taipa Houses, bringing an immersive cultural atmosphere to the entire city as a gallery and an art garden.

IC and the Macao Government Tourism Office joined hands to set up a series of four art installations, “Having Fun with Mak Mak”, in the Taipa Municipal Garden and in the Taipa Houses. The mascot “Mak Mak” dresses in Portuguese costumes and becomes a traveling companion, interacting with the public and taking photographs, encouraging residents and tourists to capture the moments with their families and friends during their travel, thereby evoking emotional resonance of love, family affection and friendship. In addition, the “Art Macao” public artwork “Global City” by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is displayed at the Taipa Houses. The artwork is mainly made of steel and resin, and features a concept around the idea of “a global village”, inspiring people to reflect on land development and the application of information technology, exploring in depth the Internet and the convenience in life as well as the ways of communication and interaction between people, allowing people to think about the threat of human civilization faced by the earth and demonstrating the realistic significance of sharing the same house.

In addition, as an important part of Art Macao 2021, the exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” features a total of 12 pieces/sets of outstanding artworks by local artists at the former Municipal Cattle Stable (Ox Warehouse), including paintings, three-dimensional installations, sculptures and photographs, among others. The exhibition offers an opportunity for the public to appreciate Macao’s contemporary art and local culture, encourages innovation and connects Macao artists to international art platforms. Two exhibitions of the “Creative City Pavilion” are open to the public at the adjacent Mong-Ha Villas, namely the exhibition “Wuhan: City of Design – Empathy” and the exhibition “Linz: City of Media Arts – The Art of Interface”. The exhibition “Wuhan: City of Design - Empathy” presents a number of empathetic works inspired by epidemic prevention, focusing on individuals in the midst of grand historical events from a micro perspective and exploring the facet of human nature - empathy. The exhibition “Linz: City of Media Arts - The Art of Interface” demonstrates the cutting-edge charm of contemporary interactive art, searching for the form and existing meaning of interface. The above exhibitions are open until 24 October, and admission is free.

IC will strictly follow the relevant guidelines of the Health Bureau and implement appropriate measures. For more information on Art Macao, please visit the official website at www.artmacao.mo, “artmacao” on Instagram, “IC Art” page on Facebook, and “IC_Art_Macao” on WeChat.
