Additional Public Screenings of the Documentary “Interpretation of Images” on Macao’s Screening Industry are to be Launched

In order to raise the public awareness of Macao’s film and related industries and to enhance public understanding of the century-old history of Macao’s screening industry, the Cultural Affairs Bureau produced a documentary entitled “Interpretation of Images” themed around the history of Macao’s cinemas and screening industry. Meanwhile, public screenings of the documentary are held at Cinematheque·Passion. As a result of the overwhelming response to the screenings, all time slots have been filled. Therefore, ten more public screenings will be held from March to May. All interested parties can register online from todayvia the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Activities Registration System”.

Directed by Lao Keng U in cooperation with local film and television creative forces, “Interpretation of Images” tells the story of the vicissitudes of Macao’s screening industry over the past century through interviews with academics and cinema professionals and presents the evolution of Macao’s cinemas. The additional public screenings of the documentary will be held from 21 March to 9 May at Cinematheque·Passion, with a total of 27 seats for each screening. All interested parties can register online from 10:00am on 4 March via the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Activities Registration System” (www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event). If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, a random draw will be conducted to determine the final list. Each person can only sign up once for each screening, and for two screenings at most. After drawing electronic lots, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will notify selected audience.

The documentary “Interpretation of Images” is screened at the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of Cinematheque·Passion, coinciding with an exhibition at the venue, at No. 9 and No. 11, Travessa da Paixão. The Cultural Affairs Bureau sought to develop an exhibition space that introduces Macao’s film industry through the combination of physical and visual materials, showcases the individuals, incidents and artefacts behind the scenes that have led to the growth of the industry, and relates the history and stories of Macao’s century-old cinema development. All are welcome and admission is free.

The Cinematheque·Passion is open from Tuesdays to Sundays (including on public holidays) and closes on Mondays. The ticket office is open from 10:00am to 11:30pm, and the exhibition hall and the film information room are open from 10:00am to 8:00pm.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau will strictly follow the relevant epidemic prevention guidelines of the Health Bureau and implement appropriate measures for cultural activities.
