The exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” is an important part of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”. It offers an opportunity for the public to appreciate Macao’s contemporary art and local culture, encourages innovation and connects Macao artists with international art platforms. Qiu Zhijie, Chief Curator of “Art Macao”, themed “Advance and Retreat of Globalization”, called for submissions of contemporary visual artworks from local artists in March this year, hoping to review the globalization in the pandemic era through various forms of visual arts. The assessment process was successfully completed in June. The list of selected works is as follows: Mother by Cheong I Kuan, Paradise Series by Fok Hoi Seng, Stray Birds by Ho Weng Chi, Scattered by Ieong Man Pan, Allegory of Globalization by João Miguel Barros, League of Journeyers to the East by Konstantin Bessmertny, It Doesn’t Matter to Me by Kun Wang Tou, Glocalization by Lampo Leong, China Landscape No.2021 by Mak Kuong Weng, It’s Been a Hard Year by Sit Ka Kit, Evolution by Wong Soi Lon and Genesis on 720 Screens: The Unknowable_/_ by Wong Weng Io. The artists of the selected works strive to explore, innovate in form and in language, turning ideological themes into vivid artistic images, demonstrating the distinctive understanding of Macao artists towards historical moments of the world. The exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” will be held from 29 August to 24 October, from 10am to 7pm, at the Former Municipal Cattle Stable.

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture and the Secretariat for Economy and Finance, “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” is organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, and co-organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, Wynn Macau, Limited, and Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited, with the participation of various creative cities and local higher education institutions, as well as the support of the Municipal Affairs Bureau and Air Macau.
