“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021” features a total of 30 large-scale exhibitions, among which the Public Art Exhibition takes “Technology of Well-being” as theme, an extension in public space of the concept embodied in the Main Exhibition, “Advance and Retreat of Globalization”, which will reveal artists’ thoughts on creating happiness. The public artwork “Miss You” by Thai artist Gongkan is now on display at Anim’Arte NAM VAN, presenting a beautiful landscape of happiness to the public.

“Miss You”, a sculpture by Thai artist Gongkan encourages people to have courage to overcome the limitations of physical space or other conditions, and to choose who they want to love in today’s world, where rapid development is taking place. In response to the theme of the Main Exhibition, the artwork also reflects on the present and explores the pursuit of happiness.

In addition, the public artworks “Sun Boat” and “Learning from Macao” are also displayed in Macao public spaces. “Sun Boat” by artist Moataz Nasr from Egypt is displayed in Barra Square. The work features a sun disc of 360 paddles tied to each other in a circular shape, illustrating the endless, interconnected movement of human beings on earth seeking a better life. The mega urban panorama “Learning from Macao” by the Drawing Architecture Studio from China, placed on the Exterior Wall of the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, on the other hand, aims to record and pay tribute to local culture, inspired by the observations of the city’s daily and recreational life.

More public artworks will be exhibited successively in public spaces of the city, spreading arts in every corner and bringing an immersive cultural atmosphere to the entire city as a gallery and an art garden. The Main Exhibition and all exhibitions at the Creative City Pavilion of “Art Macao” have now reopened. Visitors to the exhibitions at the Creative City Pavilion may receive a special face mask designed by the participating artists and local designers.
