Zhou, Xiong

After graduating from the Central Conservatory of Music, Zhou Xiong performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra for almost 30 years, being its principal timpanist and percussionist for 15 years.
He participated in many major shows, including China Art Festival, Beijing Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, New York Central Park Concert, Les Années Chine-France concerts, and Ultra Music Festival Tokyo. He also worked with famous musicians like Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Chung Myung-whun, Charles Dutoit, Yo-Yo Ma, Mischa Maisky, Pinchas Zukerman, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Tan Dun. His long career in the orchestra gave him a trove of experience, having performed with so many groups.
As a National First Class Musician, Zhou Xiong is also an active educator, helping to plan and organize the highly praised “Beat, Percussion and Music Concert” of the music education brand “Music Workshop” in Shanghai, as well as serving as major teacher and musician.
Zhou also teaches at Shanghai Conservatory of Music as professor and tutor for masters of the Department of Percussion and Modern Instrumental Music. He’s been a longtime vice president of China Percussion Association and Shanghai Percussion Association and was recently invited to be the chairman and standing director of the International Percussion Education Association (IPEA).
