Wu, Zhen

A graduate from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, who studied under professor Chen Jiuhe and graduated in 1997 with honours from the BA programme in cello performance, with top marks from all the string music professors of the music institute.
As a member of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra since 1997, he has toured in Germany, France, Italy, Holland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey, Luxembourg, Vatican City, Bulgaria, besides United States and Canada. In 2006, he became Deputy Principal Cello at the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Cello in 2012.
Wu Zhen has played important solo sections from the symphonic repertoire with his performances being highly praised by Christian Ehwald, music director of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and director of conducting department of HfM Berlin, Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.
Apart from symphony, he has performed in other chamber formats like duet, trio and quartet, in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing. His most notable performances include playing in the string quartet concert at the Shenzhen Concert Hall, and in a quartet in Turin, Italy in 2009, during Shenzhen’s bid for participation in the 2011 Summer Universiade.
Wu Zhen has more than 20 years experience in teaching and his disciples have won numerous awards in different editions of the National Aiqing Cup, a cello competition in China.
