Chen studied Western music at the Department of Music of the Chinese Culture University, where he majored in tuba with mentorship from Duan Hu-Hsuan. He was admitted to the Taipei Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and joined the Taipei Brass Quintet in the same year, where he has served as a professional performer until the present day. In 2021, he joined the TPO Big Band and founded the jazz ensemble TubaStation with Duan Hu-Hsuan to perform and create cross-disciplinary music pieces.

Chen currently teaches at the Department of Music of the Chinese Culture University and Taipei American School and serves as a tuba instructor at the wind orchestras of many schools. In addition to regular performances in Taiwan, he has also joined the orchestras’ performances in Austria, the United States, Japan, Russia, France, Spain, Germany, Luxembourg, Singapore, China, and the Philippines.
