Jiang Xinlai

A native of Shanghai, Jiang started her double bass studies at the age of 10 and gave her recital debut at the age of 15. In 1994, she studied on a full scholarship at New England Conservatory in the United States under Lawrence Wolfe, assistant principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She then furthered her studies on a full scholarship at The Juilliard School under Orin O’Brien, bassist of the New York Philharmonic.

Jiang has been the associate principal double bass of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997, with whom she toured Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. She is a keen chamber musician and has recently participated in chamber music concerts such as The Joy of Bach and Orchestral Spotlights: Double Bass. She is passionate in music education, and currently teaches at the Academy of Music of Hong Kong Baptist University.
