Song Dongyu is the principal bassoon of the Chengdu Symphony Orchestra, a bassoon instructor at the Orchestral Instruments Department of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, an executive director of the Oboe Society of the Sichuan Musician’s Association, and a director of the Bassoon Society of the China Musicians Association.

He started to learn the violin and piano at the age of four, and bassoon at the age of 10. He furthered his studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore from 2007 to 2011 on a full scholarship, where he studied under Zhang Jin Min, the former principal bassoon of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, he was admitted to the China Philharmonic Orchestra as a bassoon and contrabassoon musician. In 2014, he was admitted to the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart in Germany, where he obtained a Master’s degree in bassoon performance. In 2017, he served as the principal bassoon of the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra.
