Yu is a professor, deputy head of Division of Strings, Wind, Brass and Percussion, deputy director of International Relations Office, deputy director of Orchestra Office, director of Percussion Department at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and a member of the School’s Artistic Advisory Committee.

He is also a tenured professor at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK, and holds visiting professorship at Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Shenyang Conservatory of Music and Wuhan Conservatory of Music. He has been awarded as a Young Artist of Philanthropy in China by UNESCO in 2019, and was one of the first musicians to be awarded an Associate Member of the Royal Northern College of Music in 2020.
