Gay graduated with First Class Honours from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2010 and then obtained a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the China Conservatory of Music, both on full scholarship.
Hailed by The Straits Times as an “excellent young conductor”, Gay is the associate conductor of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, music director of the National University of Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and conductor of the National University of Singapore Orchestra. He is also an executive member of the Singapore Huqin Association and teaches at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. He owes his musical journey to Zhang Yuming, and has studied with the late erhu doyenne Min Huifen and erhu master Zhang Shao.
