A flute workshop and a violin workshop will be held from 18:30 to 21:30 on April 7 and 8 respectively in the auditorium of the Macao Museum. Wu Wing Yin (Matthew) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Chen Yun from the Macao Orchestra will be there to give advice on performing skills. Wu Wing Yin started learning flute at the age of eight. A graduate of the Xinghai Conservatory in Guangzhou, Wu obtained a scholarship to continue his study at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. During his years in school, Wu was already very active in the music scene, both locally and in the Southeast Asia region. He was a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra, and has played with many orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Asian Youth Orchestra. In 1997, Wu received the Rachel Percival Scholarship to further his study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and graduated with distinction. He returned to Hong Kong with a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance and a Licentiate in Flute Performance. Wu currently teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Chinese University and the Hong Kong Institute of Education. He is the Principal Flute of the City Chamber Orchestra. Wu is the founder and Chairman of the Hong Kong Flute Academy and the Hong Kong Flute Association. Chan Yun, principal of the Macao Orchestra, started learning violin at the age of four. He graduated from the Beijing Conservatory of Music. Chan obtained a scholarship from the Australian government to further his studies in the Conservatory of Music in Sydney, and did his major in chamber music, quartet of string instruments, quartet of piano and made national tour in Australia. He did a live concert in the famous Opera Hous of Sydney and returned to Beijing in 1985 after he completed his studies. In 1986, he organized and trained the Youth Symphony Orchestra of China, where he became the first violinist and was invited by the EEC to stage in Switzerland, England, France, Italy, Belgium and Germany. He was the principal of the Macao Chamber Orchestra since July 1996 and is now the principal of the Macao Orchestra.
