Overview

To support Macao’s ‘1+4’ development strategy for the adequate diversification of the economy and to build Macao into a ‘City of Performing Arts’, the SAR Government has allocated a 94,000-square-metre state-owned plot of land in Cotai for temporary use as the ‘Macao Outdoor Performance Venue’, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators and will be put into use in 2025.

The venue will be equipped with both essential and supporting facilities to host large-scale shows. The new venue will be leveraged to introduce international performing arts programmes and encourage organisers of outdoor cultural festivals, performing arts programmes, and tour shows from home and abroad to run international performances in Macao.

The SAR Government will continue to actively support the development of performing arts, sparing no efforts to build a ‘City of Performing Arts’ through multi-pronged cultural policies, so as to propel local economic development with culture as a new driving force, giving full play to Macao’s role as a ‘base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist’ within the ‘culture +’ synergistic effect.
