Dai is a renowned conductor and a director of the Conducting Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. He is currently an associate professor and a supervisor of the Master’s students at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, mainly engaged in the teaching and research of symphony orchestra conducting and ethnic band conducting.

He started his conducting career in 1995 and was invited to be a visiting scholar at the Manhattan School of Music in the United States in 2015. He was the principal conductor of Shanghai Conservatory Chinese Orchestra, resident conductor of the Xiaoyan Choir of Zhou Xiaoyan Opera Centre and Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra, and guest conductor of the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, The Macao Chinese Orchestra and Malaysia Philharmonic Chinese Orchestra. He also serves as a visiting professor or guest artist at various music academies and arts institutions.
