L. van Beethoven: Symphony No. 2 in D Major, op. 36
Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major (“Eroica”), op. 55
Ms. Yip Wing-sie, a highly respected and influential figure on the Asian orchestral scene, will conduct the recently enlarged Macao Orchestra in the second concert of the orchestra dedicated to Beethoven.
In the tranquil, dreamy poetics and exuberant emotion of the Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Beethoven seems to be celebrating and embracing the beauty of life. Listening to such a piece, who could imagine that when Beethoven composed it he was in the grip of a depression caused by a series of setbacks in his career and love life, and the rapid deterioration of his hearing. The Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major (“Eroica”) was Beethoven’s own favourite symphony.
Duration: approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes, including one interval
