Lai Chi Vun Shipyards

The construction of the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards began in the 1950s and its operations ceased in the 1990s. Located on the riverside of Lai Chi Vun Road, the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards are similar in size, built in parallel rows, perpendicular to the water. These shipyards constitute a modular cluster, creating a particular landscape that reflects the perfect harmony between the natural environment and the man-made structures.Lai Chi Vun Shipyards, a heritage retaining the crafts of shipbuilding, is the only extant shipbuilding industry site in Macao relatively intact and a testimony to the urban development, industrialization and lifestyle of Macao at that time.

At present, lots X11-X15 from the first phase revitalization of the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards have been opened, with an area of about 3,000 square metres, where a thematic exhibition area, performance space and workshops have been set.
