The city of Shanghai has long been home to some of the best ballet in Asia. During the 1920s and 30s, expatriate Russian choreographers living in Shanghai helped train a whole generation of Chinese dancers. In the 1950s, the Shanghai Ballet School was founded, and the Shanghai Ballet Company followed soon after. The school has produced countless top-notch dancers and choreographers, while the Company has won widespread international acclaim. In Macao this year, the Shanghai Ballet Company will perform excerpts from Western classics such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and Don Quixote, showcasing the dancers?unparalleled technical and interpretive skill.
