The Music Festival’s closing concert marks the culmination of an intensive three weeks steeped in top quality performances. This year, the BBC Symphony Orchestra will take pride of place in a concert featuring two world-class artists. The first, Leonard Slatkin, is one of the foremost conductors in the world today. As Music Director and Conductor of the American National Symphony Orchestra and Resident Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, he has won the prestigious ASCAP Award, as well as several honorary doctorates and Grammy nominations. The second, Leonidas Kavakos, a Greek violinist, is one of today’s most sought-after virtuoso violinists in Europe and North America. The concert programme includes the overture from The Marriage of Figaro, as well as works by Benjamin Britten, Johannes Brahms, and Joseph Phibbs. The diversity of musical styles combined with the virtuosity of the performers are sure to make this closing concert one of the highlights of the festival.
