Bizet: Symphony No. 1
Saint-Saëns: Violin Concerto No. 3, op. 61
Our Fourth Season opens with the
first concert of the dazzling Masterworks of Romanticism Series. Bizet’s
Symphony No. 1 came to light nearly 80 years after its composition. Written when
the composer was just 17, this remarkable work recalls early Mozart and
anticipates Carmen’s elegant orchestrations and balanced classical forms.
Saint-Saëns’s Third Violin Concerto, dedicated to the Spanish virtuoso Pablo de
Sarasate, is one of the finest contributions to the Romantic repertoire for
violin and orchestra. You can’t afford to miss this wonderful concert!
