Two years ago, the Royal Philharmonic celebrated 60 years of excellence in music-making. For more than half a century "Britain's national orchestra" has upheld the vision of its founder, Sir Thomas Beecham, bringing world-class performances of the greatest music ever written to a growing public, both at home and on its many tours across the globe.
On their maiden voyage to Macao, the musicians of the RPO are led by renowned Principal Guest Conductor Leonard Slatkin. The cornerstone of the programme is Mahler’s First Symphony, a highly effective work which conveys the controversial Austrian composer's high hopes for being understood at a tender 28 years of age and the dawn of his symphonic career.
“The Royal Philharmonic plays like a dream, with characterful wind soloists and much silvery, aristocratic strings tone.”
