More than North America's premier wind quintet, the Grammy-nominated Imani Winds is among the most exciting, inventive and distinctive ensembles in the chamber music world today. Since 1997 this quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, genre-blurring collaborations and inspirational outreach programmes. Joyous energy and elegant virtuosity are hallmarks of their captivating performances. With two member-composers and a deep commitment to commissioning new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging the European, American, African and Latin American traditions. Based in New York, this ensemble has been in existence for nearly 15 years, and May 2012 marked the group’s Chinese debut.
