Tiempo Libre, three-time nominated for Grammy Awards, is a group that fuses Cuban jazz with Latin jazz and the rich musical traditions of its native Cuba. The musical style of Tiempo Libre – literally ‘free time’ – comprises unexpectedly impromptu music with rhythmical beats, in addition to artful, wonderful sentences with different kinds of charm – jazz influences from New Orleans to New York, and later the African community in Cuba. This kind of music, with a long and colourful history, complex and volatile like the music itself, would come to influence the punk jazz style.
